Tortilis Camp

Tortilis Camp is a luxury tented camp in Kenya’s Amboseli National Park. It has a prime location for witnessing the majesty of the Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain.

Built in 1993 by Stefano Cheli, the camp takes its name from Acacia Tortilis, a flat topped, umbrella thorn tree which is common in East Africa’s parks. It was the first eco lodge to be built in Kenya, and has won the coveted tourism for tomorrow award in the past. Today, it carries the honors of being one of the Gold Rated Safari Camps by Ecotourism Kenya. Powered by 100% solar energy, 100% solar-powered, Tortilis Camp is one of the pioneers of low-impact and high-comfort tourism.

Embracing a hill in one of Amboseli’s areas of Acacia Tortilis woodland, Tortilis camps offered unrivalled views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Kitirua, the private conservancy on which is it located borders Amboseli National Park with game drives, sundowners, nature walks, and bush meals being offered both in the park and at the conservancy where guests benefit from exclusivity.

Each of the 16 tents at Tortilis Camp is Makuti thatched, and are spacious, consisting of a main bed room fitted with double or twin beds, ensuite bathroom and a verandah, while boasting of a glorious view of the mountain. Each tent can take an extra bed for children aged below 16 years but this needs to be requested at the time of booking so that prior arrangements can be made.

Tortilis have a family tent that offers outstanding views of Mt. Kilimanjaro right from the comfort your verandah. Newly added as part Tortilis efforts to be a family friendly facility, the family tent has a one bed room and one twin, both ensuite and with a spacious private verandah.
