Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge is located on the eastern edge of the Ngorongoro Crater. One of the most outstanding features of the lodge is the fact that it enjoys amazing views to the crater rim. Located at the highest point on Ngorongoro crater’s entire rim and acing the always magnificent sunsets to the west, this lodge that stands well over 500 meters above the crater floor offers unapparelled views across the enormous caldera.

The lodge has 97 rooms, including 5 inter connecting rooms that are ideal for families, and 1 wheel chair accessible room.

The elderly and lavishly decorated establishment is themed around traditionally circular African houses with conical roofs, and decorated with examples of Africa’s rich tapestry of artistic traditions by way of rich woodcarvings and sculptures. The lodge harmonizes perfectly with its dramatic surroundings. The Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge is based around an impressive glass-fronted central atrium that overlooks the swimming pool. To the left and right, you will find the lounge and the restaurant, which are vast, yet inviting. Rooms are focused around raging fires, which after a chilly evening drive can be the perfect way to relax.

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge is approximately 3 hours’ drive from Arusha, and 30 minutes away from Manyara airstrip. Although not a luxurious lodge, the lodge has its own access road to the crater floor, due to its location on the eastern side of the rim away from the other lodges. This is one of the reasons why it stands out. We normally recommend a minimum of 1 and maximum 2 nights stay at the lodge.
