Angama Mara
Angama Mara is a top luxury safari lodge, perched high on the rim of Africa’s Great Rift Valley with an extra ordinary vantage point that overlooks the Mara Mara Triangle.
The remarkable owner-run property derived its name Angama, which means “suspended in mid-air” from the Swahili language. Located way above Africa’s Great Rift Valley floor, the exceptional lodge itself appears to float above the vast Masai Mara, a reserve teeming with Big game. It is no surprise that hot air balloon flights sail past Angama’s 10-metre-wide floor-to-ceiling glass fronts tented suite in the mornings.
At Angama Mara, there are two totally separate and intimate camps each comprising of fifteen tented suites. Right from the guest areas that are set on the edge of the Ololoolo Escarpment, one can enjoy wrap-around views of the Masai Mara below. That is why this strategic that offers breath taking views and amazing scenery was chosen when filming some romantic scenes in the Out of Africa movie.
Angama Mara has its own private airstrip with the Mara, Africa’s loveliest wildlife reserve below it.
From the lodge part of Angama Mara which drew its inspiration from an old-world “Country Club” style, guests can dine, read, relax, and enjoy a drink in a place where indoors and outdoors are merged into one. The lodge’s unique architecture is filled with drama, and the red brickwork is inspired by local Maasai technique.
The tented suites part of Angama Mara in contrast is the epitome of a classical tented African safari. The comfort of each guest has keenly been put into consideration with sweeping canvas, end to end glass fronts, polished floors, stylish furnishings and private decks hanging above the Mara.
On each of the tented suites that are suspended 300 meters above the floor of the Mara, on the edge of the Rift Valley, you will find super king size bed, bath, shower, ceiling fans, twin vanity unit, in room safe, personal bar, telephone / intercom, quality binoculars and a hair dryer. Laundry service is available and in room dining can be arranged. There are two inter connecting suites that are suitable for families, with one tented suite at Angama Mara also being wheel char accessible.
Set between the two camps is a pavilion where there is a swimming pool, a fitness center, a curated gallery showcasing Africa’s art and craft, jewelry and a studio where Maasai women spend the day beading bespoke items.
Intimate picnics are offered on the crest of the Out of Africa kopje that is featured on the movie’s poster.
Safaris to Angama Mara are by air only. We offer packages connecting Angama Mara to Nairobi (50 minutes depending on flight routing), Nanyuki, Naivasha, Samburu, Lewa and other parts of the Kenya safari circuit by air.
