Amboseli Sopa Lodge
Amboseli Sopa Lodge is nestled at the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro, with this rustic lodge set in 200 acres of private land near Amboseli National Park. From the lodge, one can enjoying the stunning views of the snowcapped Mount Kilimanjaro or view animals that roam in the lodge’s surroundings.
The lodge is located about 234 kilometers south east of Nairobi. A drive by road takes about 4.5 hours. Amboseli National Park is 20 minutes’ drive away. From Wilson airport, a flight takes 30 minutes followed by a 1-hour transfer to the lodge.
Amboseli Sopa Lodge has 83 rooms. These include 6 inter connecting rooms, one honey moon suite and 2 wheel chair accessible rooms. There are two conference rooms, with the largest having a capacity for 110 delegates in theatre style.
While Amboseli National Park conserves over 600 hundred breeding species of birds as well a host of rare and wonderful wildlife, the area is also home to the Maasai people, perhaps the most renowned African tribe in the world.
The land on which Amboseli Sopa Lodge is set within boasts of mature wooded gardens as well as a variety of trees and plants. These include fragrant Frangipanis, thorn tree acacias, giant cacti and the colourful bougainvillea, all thriving in the lodge’s surroundings. Numerous species of birds, monkeys, squirrels, mongooses, duikers and even Gazelles have made the lodge’s gardens their home.
It is within the vast expanse of these mature gardens that the rustic and spacious cottages at Sopa Lodge meander through.
Kibo restaurant is Amboseli Sopa Lodge’s main restaurant copying a design of an African traditional hut. Its glass windows and doors face the snowcapped mountain.
There are two bars at Amboseli Sopa Lodge. The Mawenzi Bar has a massive central fire place dividing it into two. On the other hand, Hemingway’s bar is perched on top of massive boulders at the lodge’s highest point. From here, one enjoys 360 degrees of uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape and also a perfect base for an evening sundowner. The lodge also has a swimming pool where one can cool themselves during the hot days or after their game drives.
