Sanctuary Tambarare
Sanctuary Tambarare is a luxury tented camp, located at the 90,000-acre Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya’s Laikipia County.
Featuring just 10 luxurious guest tents, Sanctuary Tambarare, which was opened in June 2022 is a peaceful haven that reflects its surroundings – with a generous helping of indulgence.
Individually decorated, each tent has a “boutique meets bush” style. The golden age of safari mingles with contemporary designs and some feel of the local culture. The furnishings include a super-king-size bed surrounded by mosquito netting, bedside stands and lighting, and a writing desk and chair. Each tent also boasts of a separate seating area, comprising a couple of easy chairs and a table. The décor includes Maasai-inspired art in shades of blue, for a serene feel. In the en-suite washroom, you will find a toilet, twin washbasins, and a walk-in shower. Each tent at Sanctuary Tambarare alos has a private veranda, where guests can enjoy beautiful views of the cast Ol Pejeta Conservancy plains.
After adventurous day of spotting elephants, giraffes, warthogs, gazelle and zebra or tracking lions and riding horses with rhinos in this stunning wildlife sanctuary, guests can retire to the secluded tented camp for sundowners, relaxation and attentive five-star service.
WHAT MAKES IT UNIQUE:
Besides being a home to all members of the Big 5, The Ol Pejeta Conservancy if a safe haven to over 130 Black Rhinos. It is also the only place where you can meet Najin and Fatu, the only two surviving northern White Rhinos in the world. It is also here when you can find a Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Kenya.
While staying at Sanctuary Tambarare, one can also enjoy night game drives at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. You can watch as the plains come alive at night, with nocturnal animals such as aardvark, white-tailed mongoose, zorilla (striped polecat), bat-eared fox and perhaps even lions and leopards. This night time adventure is very special as it is not possible in most of Kenya’s national parks.
HOW TO GET THERE:
The Ol Pejeta Conservancy where Sanctuary Tambarare is located is situated about 220 kilometers from Nairobi. Driving there takes about 4 hrs 30 mins on a 220-kilometer journey on a good road through the lush central Kenya Highlands.
One can also take a scheduled flight from Wilson Airport to either Nanyuki or Kamok airstrips. A road transfer from Nanyuki airstrip to Sanctuary Tambarare Camp takes about 1 hour 45 minutes while a transfer from Kamok Airstrip to the camp takes about 30 minutes.
