Lying hidden among the kopjes, ancient baobab and grasses of Tarangire National Park is Tarangire Sopa Lodge, a huge, Impressive safari lodge that is built to blend in with the vastness of its surroundings. The lodge is only 120 km, 2 hrs away from Arusha by road, while a flight from Arusha airport to the nearby Kuro airstrip takes a mere 20 minutes, followed by a one-hour drive to the lodge. This is one of the best located lodges for those seeking to enjoy thrilling game watching at Tarangire National Park; home to one of the greatest concentration of Elephants in Africa. From the comfort of the lodge, you can already see the Jumbos around the lodge, a rare chance to encounter the gentle giants from close quarters.

Built on different levels, the main public area building offers an extremely cool respite from the outdoor heat as soon as you step into the reception. The spacious lobby, with its glistening marble floors, colorful hand-woven carpets, and an incredibly high roof will be much welcome after a drive on the Africa roads. A further walk up the steps leads you up to the lounge and bar, with an outdoor terrace from where you can enjoy your sundowners.

While the circular guest suites with their high, conical roofs fan out to either side of the public area, you are advised to be cautious here. This is because the lodge is not fenced, so wild animals are at liberty to come and go as they please and walks to your room and back may be (although not as often) delayed by an Elephant or a few of them.  For that reason, the management insists on each guest being escorted to and from the room by a guide at night.

The cool rooms at Tarangire Sopa Lodge are spacious and airy and also offer views from their unsheltered verandahs. Each of the 75 luxurious rooms has a private lounge, a well-appointed bathroom and a mini bar. Each room has 2 queen size beds with a mosquito net around them. For the physically challenged, Tarangire Sopa Lodge has 4 rooms that are suitable for them, and there are also 4 interconnecting rooms reserved for families. It is always important to let us know at the time of booking if you need the special room so that we can reserve in advance as they are limited.

Once inside the coolness of your room, you will be delighted at its space and airiness, and also the views from its sheltered veranda. You will also find a hair dryer and tea & coffee making facilities. Wi-fi is available in public areas. Most guests are left only wishing that they were staying an extra night.
